Lucy Liu is not doing so well with her career these days. After the cancelation of Cashmere Mafia earlier this year, she joined the cast of Dirty Sexy Money and now it looks like our homegirl is unemployed again. A source at ABC has confirmed that the network has canceled the show.

The cancelation of the show means that there will be one fewer Asian face on the major TV network programs, and there were not a whole lot to begin with. Perhaps It’s time for me to quit my day job and go into acting. We need more Asian actors and all the bitches I know call me a “Drama Queen” anyway so why waste my natural talent of acting? I should hit up Lucy Liu and ask if she wants to be my acting coach since she will have a lot of time on her hands soon.

People Magazine just released its annual Sexiest Man Alive list today. The sexiest man was Aussie actor Hugh Jackman. Ya, Hugh is hot. I saw him on the Broadway Musical The Boy From Oz a few years ago and he was mighty fine.  There were 15 other men on the list as well but the one that caught my attention was Chinese pianist Lang Lang, the sole Asian man on the list. Lang Lang? Really? Do you consider this pic hot? Or this? Don’t get me wrong, I am proud that there is an Asian dude on the list this year, but there are so many other Asian men they can consider than this pianist who’s a talented and great performer. But sexy? No way!

I laughed my ass off when I saw this picture. Apparently some Japanese lingerie manufacturer saw the “Seinfeld” episode of It’s The Bro” one too many times and decided that there was indeed a market for such a product. I don’t understand why the designs on the poster look like women’s bras? Is this a product for men who do drag on the weekends, or those with lingerie fetishes? I thought it’s for those with sagging men breasts but the designs sure don’t look manly enough to assure them that they won’t turn gay upon wearing them.  I guess these poor fools don’t have a lot of options. It’s either they walk with sagging breasts, wear this undergarment or go under the knife for a Male Mastopexy Chest Lift surgery. Back to the “bros”, I wonder if they will help lift and separate like a good women’s bra. Gee, I have way too many questions about this product. I should put one on to satisfy my curiosity.

I heart Maggie Cheung. She is a fine and talented actress who hasn’t worked for at least 4 or 5 years. It’s not like she didn’t get any good scripts. Apparently bitch here was too busy dick whipped by her Caucasian ex husband (French Director Olivier Assayas) and current boyfriend (some German architect) that she couldn’t give a damn in doing her day job. But all that is about to change. Maggie will soon star in Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds — a movie that sets place in Nazi-occupied France during World War II and tells the story of a group of Jewish-American soldiers known as “The Basterds” whose mission is to kill the Nazis. Mr Jolie will play the lead. My girl Maggie will play a French woman named “Madame Mimieux” who owns a cinema in Paris. “Madame Mimieux” can make such an exquisite drag name don’t you think? It sure beats “Tequila Mockingbird” which I have used for a while now and am ready to adopt a new one.

Quick, watch this Star Trek teaser trailer before it gets yanked from the internet. Some Star Trek geezer fan shot this in the movie theater and I bet he (yes most definitely a he) went to at least a dozen movies just to hunt for this trailer. He shot the trailer and probably left the theater before the actual movie started, feeling like a million- dollar winner.  Try not to blink your eyes at the 1:26 mark and you will see cutie John Cho and his character Captain Sulu.

In order to prep myself to watch the big screen version of Dae Jang Geum without having to stare at the subtitles, I have decided to take up Korean language tutorials and am considering if I should rely on Bae Yong-Joon (BYJ) to learn this language. See, some multimedia company called Mobilero is paying him W400 Million (USD288.590) to put his feminine face in an education Korean language game that will teach bitches like me basic Korean. This game will be launched in Japan in Jan ‘09 and it targets those crazy ass ajumas that are BYJ’s fans. For 5000 yen (USD52) , they can learn Korean with Miss Thing here through listening, reading and writing. I wonder if he will also teach them how to be more lady-like, or give them the secrets to having a pair of silky soft hands or a head of split ends- free hair. Either way It will be money well spent for them.

As for me, I have decided not to learn Korean from some overrated Korean soap star. Saving money is everything in this economy and I have decided to head down to the Korean Deli in my neighborhood and take lessons from the angry cashier instead.

For those who don’t read Chinese, here’s the story. Once there was this Chinese restaurant owner in Beijing who was very eager to cater his restaurant business to the visiting foreigners during the Beijing Olympics games. His restaurant sign was written in Chinese, and had to be translated into English according to the local authority. The owner did not want to hire a translator in an attempt to economize his business efforts. A friend of his suggested that he use one of the free online translator websites instead, and he gladly followed his advice…

The 2003 Korean Drama, Dae Jang Geum (A Jewel In The Palace) will be made into a feature film soon. The love of my life Lee Yeong-Ae will return to play the lead role, Seo Jang-Geum. South Korean heartthrob Song Seung-Hun will also join the cast, as well as some Chinese actors and actresses. The details of the cast have yet to be decided. I think they should have Zhang Ziyi play the role of the evil empress Choi-Seong Guem. It’s a role she was born to play.

The Asian film industry is finally taking a page from Hollywood. It’s about time they start turning TV series into movies. We have turned countless TV series into major motion pictures here in the U.S.  Some were successful (i.e. Sex and The City - The Movie) and some were not ( i.e. Inspector Gadget). I hope they won’t screw this up. Dae Jang Guem has got to be one of my favorite Korean soaps thus far.

I guess our little Rain is trying to act all devious and shit. In his latest album “Rainism”, he wrote the lyrics for a song called “Bad Boy” and part of the lyrics go something like this:

“떨리는 니 몸 안을 돌고 있는 나의 MAGIC STICK/ 더 이상 넘어갈 수 없는 한곌 느낀 BODY SHAKE/ MAKE IT RANISM THE RANISM 내 몸을 느껴 버렸어”

Translated in English, it’d go something like this:

“My magic stick is spinning in your shivering body. You can’t go beyond my body shake. Make it Rainism The Rainism. Feel my body.”

Naughty naughty boy. Telling a lie here. It’s obviously a toothpick and not some magic stick so he claims. By the way, what the fuck is Rainism anyway!? Is the word synonymous with femininity?

Apparently half of the Korean media was up in arms over the use of explicit lyrics here. These uptight bitches argue that the reference to his “magic stick” is not appropriate for Korean audiences. “Toothpick” or “Tiny Pretzel Stick” would be more like it, since many of them can identify with that. Good things, occasionally, do come in small sizes.

Dim Sum is like sex to me. I need to have it once a week, sometimes more. As I age I cannot do it 5 or 6 times a week anymore. I mean dim sum, not sex. The high fat content in dim sum has a lot to do with my expanding waistline as my metabolism slows… thanks to the freaking aging process. Come to think of it, I will probably need to have more sex to burn off the calories from dim sum. So it’s fair to say that the two have a perfect positive correlation. More dim sum, more sex. Now what’s not to like about that???

Ok, I meant to blog an entry about dim sum and not sex, so my sincerest apologies to those who have lost their appetite imagining me going at it in your head. If you want to go to a great dim sum place in New York City, go to Dim Sum Go Go. Located in the heart of Manhattan Chinatown, this restaurant serves up authentic dim sum dishes in a non-traditional manner. There is no waiting around for the poor old lady to come to your table with her cart. You just check off what you want on a list and hand it to your server and all your orders will come out simultaneously, hot and fresh. This service style suits impatient people like me to a tee. Usually I end up running around hunting for food in places that serve dim sum on a cart since I am in no mood to wait around for the cart to come to me. Once I even ended up in the kitchen where the servers load up their carts at this 100 year-old dim sum place in Hong Kong. Ya, cart style is not for me.

About Asian Chatterbox

Everything You Need to Know About Asian Celebs and Restaurants.

About Me

Andrew Lim currently lives in New York City. He was born in Malaysia and came to the States to pursue his college education when he was 18. An avid fan of travelling, Andrew has been to over 30 countries. He flies frequently for work and fun. Andrew has so much inflight experience that he can perform the inflight safety demonstration much better than any of the flight attendants. Just don't ask him to blow into the tube of the life jacket or you will regret it. In his sparetime, Andrew loves to eat. He has a strong knowledge of great restaurants across many cities, especially those servings Asian food. Friends of Andrew have always trusted him with giving them advice on where to dine. They have also trusted him with ordering for the table whenever he is present at the dining party. The only problem is, he tends to over order. Andrew is also the go to person for all the latest and greatest Asian celebrity news and gossips. His friends often turn to him for a quick fix of juicy Asian celebrity gossip. Andrew loves to talk. If he's not talking, he's eating. He even talks in his sleep.

With all these going on, you probably expect Andrew not to hold a full time job. He does have one. Andrew is a food trends researcher and has worked with major food and beverage manufacturers like PepsiCo as well as retailers like Wal*Mart. His recent work project includes researching prepared meals/snacks purchase trends of the Mainland Chinese. Andrew is severely allergic to tree pollens, cats and dogs (thank god not to any food items!). His last allergy test also indicated that he was allergic to dust, roaches and rats. Boy, did he pick a wrong city to live in!
