His passions are promoting quality American Asian films, music, and books, and writing about the hurdles, racism, and discrimination that American Asians face today. Additionally, he is concerned about the negative effects of mass media (and the social norms created) on American Asian youth, including self hate, 'White worship', inferiority complex, and Uncle Tom behaviors.

About Asiam

Your source for American Asian news and entertainment. Despite how mainstream TV, film, fashion mags, and news media constantly stereotype them, American Asians aren't all martial artists, exotic submissive sex Objects, accented untrustworthy foreigners, sneaky dragon ladies, and asexual or chauvinistic Asian men. Although American Asians have lived in America since the 18th century, the media still fetishizes Asian women and marginalizes Asian men, creating damaging stereotypes, racism, and self-hate for Asian youth. Become more self aware and supportive of American Asian-related entertainment, politics, and news, by checking here often!

Andrew Lim

About Andrew Lim

Andrew Lim currently lives in New York City. He was born in Malaysia and came to the States to pursue his college education when he was 18. An avid fan of travelling, Andrew has been to over 30 countries. He flies frequently for work and fun. Andrew has so much inflight experience that he can perform the inflight safety demonstration much better than any of the flight attendants. Just don't ask him to blow into the tube of the life jacket or you will regret it. In his sparetime, Andrew loves to eat. He has a strong knowledge of great restaurants across many cities, especially those serving Asian food. Friends of Andrew have always trusted him with giving them advice on where to dine. They have also trusted him with ordering for the table whenever he is present at the dining party. The only problem is, he tends to over order. Andrew is also the go to person for all the latest and greatest Asian celebrity news and gossips. His friends often turn to him for a quick fix of juicy Asian celebrity gossip. Andrew loves to talk. If he's not talking, he's eating. He even talks in his sleep.

With all these going on, you probably expect Andrew not to hold a full time job. He does have one. Andrew is a food trends researcher and has worked with major food and beverage manufacturers like PepsiCo as well as retailers like Wal*Mart. His recent work project includes researching prepared meals/snacks purchase trends of the Mainland Chinese. Andrew is severely allergic to tree pollens, cats and dogs (thank god not to any food items!). His last allergy test also indicated that he was allergic to dust, roaches and rats. Boy, did he pick a wrong city to live in!

Elena Stevenson

About Elena Stevenson

You could say my career has not followed the “normal” trajectory. My college major was Music Education; I started out directing kiddie musicals at elementary schools. I always wanted to be a writer, but wasn’t quite sure where I fit in the literary world. I got a few published credits, but still searched for direction in my career. One day, a story line hit me between the eyes; not long after, I started learning more about the Asian-American film scene. And I got bit--by the movie bug, that is. Screenwriting is my passion. When you create a great story, you help others get in touch with their own. It’s incredible to know I can make a difference by creating three-dimensional, meaty characters for Asian-American actors. I also write movie reviews, articles, advertising, and whatever else will buy a box of diapers.

My husband is a Korean adoptee, and we have two adorable baby sons. It’s very important that our Asian kids see people who look like them in every field, including entertainment. I’m excited to be a part of ningin.com—it’s great to have a place to connect with like-minded people. Looking forward to dialoguing with you. I welcome ideas for blogs—please private message me so I can look into them before I report.
