2008

Since Elena has already described parts of the opening ceremony, I thought it would be nice to have some visual aid. I fell asleep during parts of the ceremony, but good thing it was only when the countries came out to walk (by the time I woke up they still weren’t done). Well anyways like Elena said, the opening ceremony was amazing. It was something I’ve never seen before both artistically and technically. I love LCD screen so when I saw HUGE movable LCD screen, I was astound. China has really set the bar for the Olympics and I can only imagine how the next two and half weeks will be like.

Best of luck to all the athletes.

I tried to watch it last night but it said it was taken down.

I thought that was fireworks then I saw the people. haha

They’re trying to block off all live streaming till the designated times.

Hahah Yeah I was confused by the picture.

Is anyone going to watch tonight?

Pretty photos.

Oh.....my......gooood! China did a spectacular job with the opening ceremony! I believe no one can top that! I’ve been talking to my family members and friends about it all night! One of my friends said it dropped her jaw on the floor, I believe it stayed there the entire night. LOL The colors were out of this world, along with the performances. Some of my favorite parts were the drum players in the beginning, the scroll, the little girl flying the kite, and the lighting of the torch. I also enjoyed the fireworks displays that just brightened up a starlit sky! I give China 1,000 thumbs up!

We’ll be adding videos of the opening sometime tomorrow.

The opening ceremony was amazing.  And props to Bob Costas and Matt Lauer for pretty good commentary...no politics, just good explanations of the imagery and symbolism.

I was also very touched to see Yao Ming tearing up while he was carrying the Chinese flag....

Me <---- very proud of my Chinese brothers and sisters

I just watched it. It was so cool! The scroll was so huge.

Lan, thanks for posting the photos. I was too tired to add many photos to my blog.

And Phil, I agree with your sentiments as well. The commentators did a good job--just to clarify, they were only relaying the info on the government’s hidden messages. And the vast majority of the symbolism was cultural, not political. Chinese everywhere should be proud!

I was so moved by last night, good to see you guys posting about it here before me.

Best Opening Ceremony ever.

I’m glad they didn’t do political commentary. I would have been really annoyed.

I wish I had went to the ceremony. It looked amazing on tv.

I want to see it again. The drawing was really cool.

I want to see it again. The drawing was really cool.

That’s why I’m so happy I recorded it! Now I can savour the moment forever!

I’m not Chinese, but I’m still proud as an Asian!

That reminds me, I should really get tivo. haha

Tivo replays but doesn’t record right?
