Asia’s King of Pop, Andy Lau, has remained “single” for as long as anyone can remember. Like Jackie Chan, he is worried (or in Jackie’s case, was worried) that revealing his relationship status will cost him the support of his female fans. Jackie Chan did not own up to having a wife (Joan Lin) and a 20-something year old son (Jaycee Chan) only until five or six years ago. Andy Lau, who is in his mid-40s now, is clearly following in Jackie Chan’s footsteps. There were countless rumors surrounding Andy’s sexuality. When I attended a wedding in Hong Kong a few years ago, I sat next to this chatterbox who told me that Andy Lau would often travel to Taiwan to hook up with younger men. She used to work for a gossip magazine so there could be an ounce of truth in what she said. Gay men usually buy the gay story if the person in question is attractive.

A more substantiated rumor is that Andy Lau has been married to a Malaysian named Carol Zhu for many years. This past weekend, it was reported that he attended Carol’s sister’s wedding in Kuala Lumpur and even sang two songs to congratulate the newlywed. He stayed no more than 10 minutes and his appearance caused quite a stir among the guests. Andy Lau has always denied his relationship with Carol, but his presence at this wedding has indeed confirmed his relationship with her. The son of this influential businessman in Malaysia (let’s call him “Alex") once told me that he was invited to Andy Lau’s party and Carol was there. He introduced her to Alex as “his wife”. Apparently the two have been married for 18 years, and get this, they even have twin daughters who are teens now. Xinhuanet (a mainland Chinese newspaper) got hold of their pictures and published them today. Andy Lau’s rep wasted no time in denying the allegation made by the paper that these girls are indeed Andy Lau’s daughters. Oh, how juicy!

I remember reading about some Japanese girls who commited suicide because Jackie Chan wouldn’t marry them… And you thought westerners had crazy fans ^^

I wonder how the wives feel about it?

Will we ever find out the truth? Why is it such a big deal to hide sexuality/ marriage status in Asia. Celebrities over here use marriage as a publicity tool…

why do asians accuse so many of their stars being gay?  i’ve met countless people convinced wong lee hom is gay, but they say that about so many other people that i just roll my eyes.
