The Tanabata Festival



On August 7th, Asagaya Tokyo held its annual Tanabata festival. Tanabata means “Evening of the seventh” and is one of the Japanese star festivals. Pingmag was there to capture all of the great floats that filled the streets.

Japan has a lot of festivals.

Is that DBZ? Looks like a deformed crab.

Sounds like the Autumn Moon Festival.

That’s because it is the Autumn Moon Featival!

The Autumn Moon Festival isn’t nearly this interesting. All we do is light candles and walk around the temple.

Same here. Well we have a big party at the temple but it’s kind of boring after a few times.

What do you do at the festival?

You walk around with a candle and make wishes I think. I dont really remember since it’s been awhile but I remember the candle!

I thought you guys were talking abotu another festival but then I read the thread and it sounded a lot like the lantern festival. haha Turns out they’re the same!
