However, despite the spirit of the Games demonstrated by Olympics volunteers, athletes, and most Chinese people and tourists, the mainstream Western media continues their negative reports. Many criticisms seems quite strained, even amusing.

I think everyone agrees the Olympics this year were great regardless of human rights violations.

I think everyone agrees the Olympics this year were great regardless of human rights violations.

I still see a lot of negativity on some online forums about the Olympics, like the controversy about the age of China’s women gymnasts…

Yeah so do I but overall I really don’t see it clouding the Olympics.

What do expect I mean they could have cheated. And to be honest they really do look super young even for Asians.

What do expect I mean they could have cheated. And to be honest they really do look super young even for Asians.

The IOC accepted the documentation that said the gymnasts were old enough and eligible to compete.  There has been no new evidence raised to bring this into question again.

There have been dozens of studies that show that the rigors of gymnastics often causes delays in girls’ maturity and growth (once they stop the gymnastics, they resume their growth).  This is why USA gymnast Kerry Strug sounded like she was 12 years old at the Atlanta Olympics (even though she was 19 years old).

On a side note, US gymnast Dominique Moceanu was 14 years old when she competed at the Atlanta Olympics.  At that time, the age limit was 14.  The 16-year-old age limit is fairly new.  Seems a bit arbitrary....

Not bad for a 17 year old.

I can’t wait for the closing ceremony tonight.

I wonder why they changed the age from 14 to 16. Some people say its to favor US gymnasts because they peak much later.

The olympics passed by so fast.

Are the passports authentic? I mean...its not really reassuring proof.

Well it’s government issued so supposedly yeah.

The closing ceremony was beautiful tonight. I was sad to see that it was all over. It will surely be one of the most memorable moments in history.

I guess we’ll never know.
