Comment to Alvin:
Here is some perspective:
There is so much criticism of this magazine over here, when there are probably more than a dozen more examples of similar if not worse cases in the United States and other Western societies.
*True aware there are many
So… which cultures/civilizations objectify women more, Western or Eastern cultures?
* I think both do…
This reminds me of other examples. A very small handful of Asian American music or film may include offensive lyrics or scenes which will be passionately bashed and criticized by Asian Americans,
* I think that is because within the Asian Ameican community in America there is an image to the american society that it is unexpected for inappropriate behavior from asian american.
meanwhile there is much more sexist and degrading and misogynistic music and film everyday in American music and film that is non-Asian and receives little criticism.
* True, It should be criticise as well and kinda is from a few looking into hiphop as negative influence. But hiphop can be positive as well. Asians in general is culturally collective when mix into the american culture of individualism it clashes. Asian american critize more about asian americans versus non asians because there is a sense of collective representation even though each person make their own decisions.
It really gives you a sense of just how powerful women and men are in each kind of culture. In my opinion the feminists in Asian America and in Asia are way stronger and louder than those in America.
* I’m not sure about that, I feel it is just the begining were asian american feminist are starting to speak about it, but not enough to do something about it. In general women are probably still begining to talk about it but I feel still falls into fueling the objectification in order to feel powerful. Example the more sexier the woman is the more powerful she is just as for men it is about making more money. Of course woman are getting more educated and can carry themselves and make money but there is still an societal cast or expectation for women to be sexy. On the flip side maybe it is empowerment to be sexy… hmmmm it is kinda one of those things your damned if you do and damned if you don’t.... I think girls have it harder than the boys… but that would be another topic....
