Obama Campaign Facing Xenophobia, Bigotry

From the Alvin Lin blog, by Alvin Lin on 2008-10-14 00:59:42 (original link)

Why is it the most important thing for some people is that the candidate has the same religion as you, or talks the same way, or has the same skin color?  Would most of America be happy with a moron they identified with and felt was most similar to them, even if it meant the country was being run into the ground? Do their similarities trump anything, even performance and ability?  And in today’s world where so many people are influenced by mass media and group-think, doesn’t the lack of independent thought result in the breakdown of true democracy? You can’t have real democracy if among the public too many people are bigots, xenophobes, or idiots; at some point the system breaks down that way.  Check out the article below about the problems his campaign is facing in talking to voters who simply can’t bring themselves to vote for a non-White Christian male.  Also, check out this article about The Bradley Effect.

I hate seeing commercials that bash Obama for NOT being white.

Did you hear about when he gave his wife the fist pump and fox called it a terrorist hand shake? lol

Lol Entertainment Weekly made fun of it by putting John Stewart and Stephen Colbert dressed as a Middle Eastern and a Terrorist doing the fist pump in the oval office.

Obama is Half-WHITE. Why don’t those bigots focus on that!? It’s so absurd.

This race card is too easy to play. His party never says he will be the first HALF WHITE Pres. Or the first Half black pres.

If his team isnt going to shed light that he is a mixed child and stop
playing the race card then it leaves him open to antiblack sentiment.

But all campaigns get nasty. And all politicians are guilty of hiding and lying somehow. I do not believe that any poltician is the second coming.

i actually feel like if they’re attacking his race that’s a good thing, because that means they’ve got nothing else. i’m just worried the rest of america isn’t as open-minded and will actually buy into taking issue with it.

GirlyBubble

Eh there’s sadly a large amount of people who are ignorant.

I still have people who call me chink. -.-; I’m Korean btw.

That’s never going to end.

I’m looking forward to Obama’s reign as the American president. No matter what anyone says, for him to win the presidency shows that many Americans are not as close minded as one would think. It also shows that many Americans ARE ready for change.
