NEW FLOWSIK INTERVIEW ON CLUBZEN

int080701_flowsik_01a.jpg

Let’s talk about the Asian American presence in entertainment right now. Are you content with the progression of the scene, or do you think some things need to change?

Asian Americans do not have a solid foundation in this entertainment world here in America. Yes, I believe that it’s been started and it’s still growing, yet not officially marked in the game. There’s definitely talent out there, but talent just doesn’t cut it, not just for us Asian Americans, but for any up and coming artist out there. I can confidently say that we will make our mark real soon, this is the chosen generation to make that move, and I will be one of the many that will revolutionize the game. One needs to stand out from the rest and be noticed. Jin the MC did it, but I believe it wasn’t enough to be considered a solid foundation for others as a stepping stone.

I would say we’re slowly breaking through. Very slowly. Especially with Jabbawockeez and Kaba Modern as two of the best dance crews in the US. Also a lot of Kpop artists are switching over to the US. Maybe they’re not as successful as we hope but with time I think they’ll get there.

Hrm It’ll be awhile before they can break through though.

It’s not going to change until people stop hating on Asians.

haha So true. They can’t hate on Asians now though. Look at Jabbawockeez.

There’s still a lot of things to overcome. A lot of people still see Asians as math geeks.

That’s changing now though I think with the younger generations.

i think it’s mainly due to the lack of support from Asians themselves....

Most of them are divided but I don’t see that as much with the younger generations.

Theres a few Asian American mainstream singers. My American Hearts, Daphne Loves Derby, Linkin Park. No ones sees them as Asian American though more like just rock bands.
