‘Rebuilding the Bridge’ Charity Event: AMAZING

From the Alvin Lin blog, by Alvin Lin on 2008-07-13 09:11 PM (original link)

DSCN2010.jpg width=300 height=264 On Saturday night I was privileged to watch the ‘Rebuilding the Bridge’ charity event at Pace University, to raise money for Chinese earthquake victims.  Talk about an AMAZING show loaded with huge stars.  I finally got to see why Phil Lam and Hoc Poeng (fearless generals of Ningin) were so busy the past few weeks working to put the show together, and this extravaganza definitely didn’t disappoint.  There were lots of logistics not to mention controversies that I’ll let other people comment on if they want.

The show was largely hosted by Miss Info of Hot 97, who was clearly passionate about this charity and used her Rolodex to pull in some amazing and talented names from around the entertainment industry.  The show included appearances or performances by Beau Sia (you might know him from this eloquent video), J-Lim, JYP, Ryan Leslie, Rik Cordero, DJ Cipha, DJ Delinger, Nas (!!), and also a meet and greet with the JabbaWockeez.

Pictures will be available and added later.

Alvin has already blogged about the most awesome event ever known to man yesterday from an attendee’s point of view, so I thought I would give you an inside scoop of what went on behind the scenes and a detailed version of what went on during the event.

13 Hours Before, there were a lot of issues along the way. With only 3 weeks to plan this event, you can only imagine how much time and effort was put into this. But with the awesome team of event promoters (Nancy Bulalacao, Ron Kim, Phil Lam, Minya Oh, David Hou and Hoc Poeng), the event went really smoothly – well for the most part. All of us who were involved, we all barely had time to sleep and eat. I’m surprised I even had time to shower! Even though I wasn’t one of the promoters, I was still able to help out with the event by designing the graphics and being one of the photographers along with Tina C.

Aw Alvin I didn’t even see you there! :(

Omg I can’t believe I missed it! URGH!

Wow That’s so many celebs. How did you guys do it?

I can’t wait to see more photos! Thanks Alvin.

I showed up for the show but missed the VIP (and backstage!).  A good college friend recently got engaged and his engagement party was 2 hrs before the show, so I was running around the city all day, not to mention trying to cover the AA International Film Festival earlier in the day.

Amazing it was! I can’t believe how many people showed up, SOLD OUT!!! Awesomeness!

And all of the celebrity talent that came out to show their support was really cool too. I didn’t stay for the Jabbawockeez meet-n-greet, but I enjoyed everything about the event. Great job to all of the organizers, performers, and everyone else involved. I can’t even imagine how chaotic it must’ve been to get everyone in one place on such short notice.

LET’S DO THE FORK IN THE GARBAGE DISPOSAL! LET’S DO THE FORK IN THE GARBAGE DISPOSAL! DING DING DING DA-DING DING DING DING DING!

Damnit...I missed it.

Haha There’s vids on facebook.

Thanks to all for your feedback. We’ve gotten a lot of it. I’m still in somewhat of a dazed from all this. Today was the 72 Hour Shootout awards and I had to be there to give out the Ningin awards, so I still haven’t had much time to relax/sleep let alone process all the photos and videos of the event. Will get to all of it soon though!

I work here.

OMG JABBAWOCKEEZ WERE THERE?!

dang i wish I were on the East coast for once lol good job you guys :D

Haha I can’t wait for the videos and pictures. smile

It’s now about 33 hours after the show ended, and I’m still wiped out...!

The most amazing thing about this event IMHO was the energy level from the audience.  It was absolutely nuclear!  One of the coolest moments was when Miss Info and Ric Cordero announced that Nas was coming on stage.  There was this split-second murmur from the audience that was like “did they really just say Nas was here?” And then he walked on stage, and the place just erupted....

Thanks all for coming!  And if you weren’t able to make it, you can still make donations to the Mercy Corps China Earthquake Relief Fund here:

OMG JABBAWOCKEEZ WERE THERE?!

Yeah, 3 members of Jabbawockeez showed up towards the end to say some words on stage to support our cause, then stayed and did a meet-and-greet/autograph session for 30 minutes after the performance.  They were really great!  Funny thing: they called and said they were on the way, so we told Miss Info “10 minutes” to give her a heads up on when she should introduce them.  Little did we know that their driver couldn’t find the theater, so he was driving around forever...finally, one of the event staff had to run out and find them...got them, brought them backstage with literally seconds to go before Miss Info introduced them to the audience...!

Also a nice suprise… Dominique, a b-boy from last season’s “So You Think You Can Dance” show was with the Jabbas hanging out during the autograph session.  But after I introduced myself to him and told him I was a fan, he called me “sir”...I felt so old...lol!
