« Certain Songs That Remind You of Something & Vice Versa?   I’m back - and married! »

How many of you sing dance play an instrument or compose music?

Just curious.

My abilities are
Instrument:
Midi Keyboards ( i know just a few scales)
Guitar (basic)
Anything electronic I can toy with, mix, hack, remix etc. and get a good sound.(Mixers, Microphones, Eq’s, guitar effects pedals)
But the main thing I do is compose/produce songs.

Music is pretty tough to learn but I’m determined.

I put up 2 samples up on YT. Then 2 others on mp3.

I’m currently working on some other new songs but they aren’t ready. I can tell you that the foundation (Melody) groove is pretty good but I haven’t figured out the harmonies for it.

Attitude. Designed for BoA (urban dance)

Thats good, the most active people here know something little about music haha.

About deciding on what instrument to play. Listen to the music carefully and try to understand what draws you in more. Think about if you like diversity or don’t care for it. Then think about practicality.

Piano is close to least practical, but is the mother of all instruments and is ideal for emotional playing. It’s much easier to learn about music theory on this type of instrument than all of the others. While simple to start out at first, one could use up their entire lifetiem and never quite master the piano. It also has the most range of tonality and semitones.

However, some people don’t own a piano and can be impractical just to ask to buy one. If you don’t have one in your house already, the alternatives are small lightweight Digital keyboards like Casio/Yamaha or midi controllers plugged into your computer.
Advantages with a computer based midi controller or a keyboard with Midi or usb out is you have unlimited amounts of sounds to choose from and is the No.1 Choice for a music composer/producer. You can compose an entire song with a midi controller and most Kpop/Pop songs are made only with this and the vocals. The Casio keyboards can run you only 100usd or less for beginner ones and make this pretty practical actually.

Electric guitar has a lot more maintenance and things to buy for it, like requiring to change strings monthly if you play daily, an amp, cable, and other stuff. It also requires greater finger strength and flexibility than a piano type instrument. If you like the guitar sections of FT island, Girls Generation, Some of Boas rock style hits, Winter love solos, Heavy metal, rock , guitar hero, this instrument will be your best friend.
The Elec. Guitar is probably the most popular choice for people.

An acoustic guitar would be a lot less hassle but may not be suitable to your style, and not too many Kpop songs are composed with Acoustic guitars.

Violin isn’t nearly as popular as the rest, and usually requires great discipline to master. It’s moody and dramatic and fills in the piano perfectly. Hook yourself with a great pianist to play with and you can rule the world, though.

Drums are great and no band or pop music can ever be on time without some sort of drum sound. Drums out of all instruments mentioned are THE MOST IMPRACTICAL instrument since you can’t turn the volume down, and its also happens to be the LOUDEST and most ear damaging sounds from any kind of instrument. Its so loud that it easily drowns out a 100W 4x12 Marshall half stack in a club at half volume. It is this reason why drummers are far away from the guitarist and use plexiglass sound shields.
Your neighbors will hate you and prevent you from playing and are legally able to do so. True story.

If you really want to play the drums still and can’t due to your constraints of either volume or space (they take up too much room) get yourself a digital drum kit. The sound comes out into your headphones. The drawback is the high price though. The other drawback is that it will not replace the raw rock sound of a real drum kit.

Wind instruments are common in Pop music, although I’ve only played the recorder before. I really like Ocarina flutes and the Japanese flute..the first experience I had learning aabout the Japanese flute was in Samurai Showdown. Its amazing.

Ok, finally we have singers and dancers.

These are most desirable attributes and the hardest to make the cut. One could pursue any instrument and have a job as a session musician or play in a decent band, but singing and dancing come hardest to make a career out of.

On the bright side, singing and dancing are things that are a part of you and totally individual. You can practice singing and dancing at home without any tools or buying anything. If you get serious you will, however pay for dance sessions with teams, shoes and clothes. As a singer you’ll need a decent microphone and speakers.

It costs the least money, but also the most practice to stand out above the rest.

I hope that you can decide on what you want to do now.

lol. danny, i am not serious about music raspberry
its just a fun hobby, not my future career ^_^

Thats WHY i put down the pros and cons per instrument. Hobbies are always EXPENSIVE. If you buy any instrument and don’t keep up, how pissed will your parents be for spending all that money?
I wasn’t just writing for you, but there’s a lot of people who don’t know where to start , or what instrument to start with and end up switching since they get bored of one instrument.
I found the Keyboards least boring since there’s the most variety and I should of learned how to play in high school.
