Random News of the Day: South Korea’s Olympic Fencer Refused to Leave After Loosing

From our blog on 08/02/2012 1:00am (original link)

It’s time for the 2012’s Summer Olympics! It’s time for cheers, sports, bets, excitement, medals, and fencers that refuse to leave the podium.

Well yeah, talk about unfair ruling!!!! That really sucks!

i saw that on the news i was so shocked that they made her lose cuz of that :( not fair!!!!

This is extremely not fair. Really urks me.

That’s really not fair!!

it’s cause we’re asians

The judges should not have given that ruling!  I want a rematch!  How dare a German take what is not theirs!  Under breath:*stupid nazis* jk jk but really how could that German live with herself.

they should have a another round together or look back at the situation

omg, i heard about this..
ikr, she totally deserves a re-do. What is there to lose? >__<

It was more like she was required to stay there while the appeal was undergoing consideration. Still sad, nonetheless.

aaaaawww that’s unfair there should be a rematch

this was a very unfortunate thing. I feel angry for her.

that’s really unfair, feel sad for her :(

Yeah, that is so unfair… this is the Olympics… people should win fair and square… these judges need a new job. :/

I don’t understand (plus there were a bunch of typos) but is it basically the fact that it was a ‘first to touch wins’ kind of thing? Since the clock didn’t start and Heiderman touched first, Shin would have had a chance to retaliate?

I can see the anguish in her eyes. That’s just so upsetting. I bet the judges don’t even care if they choose to overlook something as blatantly obvious as IT NEVER STARTED and thus an unofficial win. I don’t know what there is to deliberate. If it didn’t start, it didn’t start. You redo, simple as that.

I can’t blame the German because it wasn’t in her hands, but I think the honorable thing to do would have been to request a rematch. But I also understand that a gold is a huge thing to win and not many are willing to be a better person and give up something like that for honor/integrity.

Basically, there was one second left on the clock the girls should have tied. There’s not much you can do in one second (I mean, step back, lunge, and tap? Not likely) But since the clock didn’t start, the girls had extra time, and her opponent was able to launch one more attack in the extra seconds.

Thing is, those seconds shouldn’t have happened, see?
