Japan is slightly behind. The US military has been developing holodecks (ala Star Trek: The Next Generation) for use in training soldiers. We also have the world’s first TriCorder. A college made a device that sprays a special liquid onto an object then it uses the liquid to analyze the substance it came in contact with.
